2nd batx. APRIL FOOL'S DAY

The origin of April's Fool Day is not clear. However, one theory is that it dates back to 1582 when Pope gregory XIII ordered a new calendar ( the Gregorian calendar) to replace the old Julian Calendar. As there was no television or radio at the time, word spread slowly so there were many people who continued to celebrate New Year on 1st April. Some people decided to ignore the change whilst others just forgot. These people were called "fools" and were often sent invitations to non-existent New Year's parties or were the victims of other practival jokes.
"All Fool's Day" is now observed in many parts of the world with practical jokes.
In Scotland, April Fool's Day lasts 48 hours. Day two is known as Taily Day, when practical jokes involving people's bottoms are played. The victim of the practical joke is referred to as a " gowk" which is an extinct cuckoo bird.
In France, the victim of the joke is known as the " Poisson Evil" or " April fish". Fish in April are newly hatched and easily caught. French children often stick a picture of a fish on their friends' backs and calling out "Poisson d' Avril!" when it is discovered
